Asian in Asia: 56 and 57

by Ari

Every time I’ve looked at my calendar this past month, my mind has just been reeling! Time is moving so dang fast and I feel like if I don’t keep my eye on the time, the next thing I know, I’ll be 40!

But I digress. Let’s get into the meat of what y’all came here for anyways… this gorgeous photo my friend took of me.

Just keeeeeeding. But, here’s what’s been happening to me the last two months.

May and June have just been a flurry of travel and work. I went to several concerts/festivals and a few weekend trips. I even forced myself to get out of the house and spend time with my friends who were leaving. I barely had a moment to myself, but I was starting to feel like my old self again, so I was all for it.

Walking into summer, I had absolutely no plans except to work. The plan was to just move into my new house (!!!!) and work two camps. But after the first week of nothing, I was starting to get restless. I started looking at the points I had accumulated on my credit card and ruthlessly looked up flights to literally anywhere.

Spoiler alert: Tickets to Istanbul were purchased.

I’ll be leaving right as soon as the first camp ends to head to Bangkok before catching my flight to a brand new country! In true Ari fashion, I’m not even coming back until the day before camp is supposed to start. I really don’t know how to properly relax do I?…

It’s my fourth solo trip this year and I’m really starting to fall in love with traveling by myself. There’s something so empowering about being on your own schedule and interacting with locals as a woman. I’m not going to say that I haven’t had some scary moments, but with each trip I grow more and more and my confidence in who I am as a person grow. I’ve managed to push myself waaaay more out of my comfort zone than usual and the growth has been ten-fold!

Speaking of comfort zones, look at my new house!

More pics as I continue decorating will come…. so stay tuned!

After four years of living on campus, I decided that it was finally time to get off of the mountain and into the city. It’s been peachy so far but also a definite adjustment. While nothing is molding or smells bad, within the first week my AC broke and I started finding cockroaches in my house. Now, growing up in Portland did not prepare me for how fast these little buggers are. I’ve been told it’s too cold for them to be very prominent but it could just as easily been ignorance to the problem. So obviously, living in the tropical jungle lushness, it’s a prime cockroach breeding ground. That being said, I already feel like such a beast because I killed 3 of them ALL ON MY OWN! So come at me, cockbitches, let’s see what you got! (But not really because I’m honestly still terrified of you)

Anyways, I know this was really short, but I’m not lying when I said that not too much happened. Most of it can be understood via my photos below.

I’ll (hopefully) be writing a Turkey update as soon as I return and let you know what the deal is in the worlds favorite Eurasian country.

Until next time
